This was me today except imagine a cement trail and me laying face up. Welcome to my day of a broken tailbone (well I'm crossing my fingers it's just bruised)!
Yep, another thing to add to my list of crazy things from the summer... a freakish spider bite, mastitis, and bruised ribs. Kellie and I go rollerblading each week and oh how I've been loving it, it's my ideal workout to say the least. It kicks my butt but I'm still loving it after doing it for an hour, I could never say that about running. We've been going 8 miles each time, a sweet hour workout with a face dripping with sweat. We go rollerblading on a well-known trail out here (aka The Silver Comet Trail) that is a cement paved path lined with trees that shade the trail. This trail also brings with it runners, bladers, strollers, and INTENSE bikers. Today we had .3 MILES to go of our 8 MILES...soooo almost done! I'm blading in the middle of the path, kellie on the outside. When a biker comes up from behind they yell 'on the left' but usually a little ways back to give you enough time to move over. Well today we're blading along and I hear 'ON THE LEFT' right in my ear. Freaked the crap out of me cause I knew the biker was super close so knowing I have no time to see how far back he is, I throw my weight to the right and try to glide behind Kellie. As this was happening I completely lost my balance, my feet slid out from underneath me, and I landed on the cement ground on my BOTTOM! Ohhhhh so painful. (if I ever find you bikers man you'll get it from me. they heard me fall and kept on going as if all was fine... jerks!) So I get up and try to rollerblade the last little bit. PAIN. I could only move each foot about four inches so my strides were quite small to say the least. Kellie finally had to get behind and push me the last little bit. We make it to the car, Kellie helps take off my rollerblades, and I'm just hoping to make it home sitting on the seat. By this point I feel so nauseous and sick to my stomach, light headed and everything else. I convince Kellie I'm fine driving home and finally make home after what seemed like forever. Since I had been sitting for a few minutes now I couldn't move my legs to get out of the car. Adam came out to start helping me out and I was just yelling in pain. I remember saying 'I'M GOING TO PASS OUT!' and next thing I know I'm sitting on the ground with Adam saying 'Kandis, Kandis, Kandis'. Wow, that was a first for me and never wish to experience passing out again. After about ten minutes I finally was able to manuever to a standing position and made it inside. We debated whether to go to the hospital (which my doctor said to) but hello, let's pay a few hundred dollars for them to give me a higher dosage of IB Profen and tell me to go home and rest for the next few weeks. Especially after Kellie found online that they often do a rectal exam to see if your tailbone is broken... NO THANK YOU! So after a slow moving day, my BUTT HURTS! It's been better than that first hour though so I'm really hoping I just bruised it pretty bad than fractured it. I'm just dreading going to bed tonight to wake up to extreme stiffened pain. Oh the things we do to lose weight. I told Kellie if I'm feeling better for next week I'll strap a pillow to my butt, now that would be hilarious!

I'm so sorry! Ernie did that last year snowboarding. He had to get his butt x-rayed, and he didn't break it, but he bruised his tailbone so bad, you could see that the bone was black and blue on the x-ray. He was doped up on vicodin for days, and had to sit on Weston's little pool floatie intertube for over a week. The doctor at the ski resort said that bruising it can hurt worse than breaking it, and he could be in serious pain for up to three weeks, but he was ok after two. I hope you're feeling better soon!
Yikes! Sounds painful! I broke my butt in high school when my good friend Donny, decided to pull my chair out from under me. So I know what you are going through with the pain. Major Ouch!! I hope you get to feeling better.
Oh man, you have the worst luck! I really hope it goes away soon. My mom broke or bruised her tailbone a few times when I was a kid because she was always falling (lots of stories). Clutziness is in the family...although in your case today it was just wrong place wrong time.
Wow, you and I are more alike than I thought! Things like that happen to me all the time and I am SICK of it! I am sorry for that - I wish you could find that guy and put a stick through his tires while he is riding! Take that you inconsiderate fool!
sidenote: my brother in law has padded bike shorts when he bikes, maybe you should look into them for blading! hee hee
Apparently working out is extremely dangerous these days :). Let me know when I can take the kiddos to give you a greak
SO sorry for you! I have broken my tailbone before and it takes FOREVER to heal!
O.K. you have had your share of crap this summer--I'm sorry! Hope it's not broken!
Oh no! This is awful! I hope you're feeling better now. For some reason I have missed out on like 100 of your posts. Your URL must not be on my blogroll - I better fix that! Anyway, love all the pics, glad you got to Notre Dame FINALLY! I had forgotten about that whole thing. What a mess. I bet you had better weather than we did anyway! :)
Bummer!!! (No pun intended). I swear you have more things happen to you than just about anyone. I hope that it gets feeling better soon.
Yowch! I broke my tailbone giving birth to Melissa - not fun!! Try nursing, and all the things you have to do with a new baby with a broken tailbone!! Pain. Hope you're feeling better.
Kandis!!! Maybe you should just stay inside for a few months until this bad luck streak passes! I jumped over a snow drift and slipped on some ice once- landing on my tailbone...I still can't do a proper sit-up! I feel for you! Hope your bum feels better soon!
This pic looks like Adam.
OUCH! Are rollerblades even around still? Sorry to hear about your crash- it has been quite a year for you! Just a few more months of possible accidents and then you can start a fresh new year :) Good Luck!
