Our last day of Powell was a momentous day - the day we discovered fresh-water JELLYFISH. For those Lake Powell regulars, it is true. We first set off for Cathedral Canyon. We took the boat up as far as we could and those of us exploring the canyon swam the rest of the way, which wasn't very far...
The boat stayed back with our new friend, the bat, (who kicked it there on the canyon wall for the next three hours while we were there).
So while the crew went exploring up ahead, my mom and Kenedee swam to some rocks in the sun. They climbed up on the rocks and watched the fish swimming in the water. After a few minutes of the water not being disturbed, my mom saw three mucus-like objects coming up to the surface. She thought they looked and moved like jellyfish but didn't think that was possible since we've never seen anything like this in the 40 years they've been coming. So once we came swimming back out of the canyon my mom told us to come check these creatures out, which kind of freaked us out. Once we made it to the rock she was on we had to sit there for a minute while they swam back up to the surface. And sure enough these jellyfish came back up. We caught one in a cup to check it out and make sure that is what they were and sure enough, we discovered jellyfish at Lake Powell. They were pretty little though, about the size of a quarter (all stretched out) and the one we caught was about the size of a nickel. So since my mom discovered these creatures, we named them jellykris' after her...

Thanks for all the pictures of lake powell. It has been years since I have been there, and it was so fun looking at all of the sites. Looks like you had a ton of fun! Good luck in AZ
