LAKE POWELL - Day One

Sand Mountain, Wahweap Window, & Antelope Canyon
We usually camp on the beach or get a houseboat, but this year we did something we've never done before...we stayed in a hotel! It was pretty sweet, definitely different and not the normal Powell that we were used to - roughing it dirty for a week. Tuesday (July 21st) we launched the boat and took off. Lincoln loved driving the boat with Grandpa Craig...

First up...Sand Mountain. (This was a total killer, we were all dying about three fourths of the way up. I have to give major props to my 7 month prego sister, she made everything that week look easy, even hiking up Sand Mountain)

The men racing down the mountain...

Next up...Wahweap Window. This is a group shot before we hiked up to the window (background on far right). Adam & I recently started watching Arrested Development - HILARIOUS - so Adam decided to pull a 'Milford Man' pose which didn't make my mom too happy. He loves to ruin our pics but it still makes me laugh looking at it...

If you've been up to Wahweap Window you know there are hundreds of names carved all throughout the rock. And first thing we did was try to find ours, success. Kellie, Kandis, Kurt, Katelyn, and Kristopher & Celeste were all found. We've come to Lake Powell every year of my life but we've only made it to the Window a half dozen times. It was crazy to think that we were here 20 years ago with our first date on there being '89...

And last stop for the day...Antelope Canyon. This baby was one disgusting canyon, the nastiest hike this trip. But nothing stops us, yeah right. It took a lot of bribing to get me in that water but I had to once Kellie gave me a hard time for being the only sibling hanging back. Here's a pic of us hiking into the canyon...

And here we are hiking back out (I don't know how I got to be the lucky one leading us out)...I still remember the nasty smell that came with that muck. I bet you're all jealous!

Yeah, the mud thing looks disgusting. All I can think about is what your dad did when you all got back in with mud all over you. There is no way he'd let you in looking like that...

So how was the hotel thing? Better than expected? One of these days, we'll get my mom to let us go back.

My mom wouldn't let us even put a hand on the back of the boat, not really. But we had to stand on the back of the boat ledge until we got to clear water so we could wash off.

The hotel thing was awesome, Chris Valentine would LOVE Powell in a hotel. We're for sure getting your family back out there one of these days!

Is the Sand Mountain near Bullfrog or Wahweap? Do you recall the name of the canyon? Thank you

It's right there in wahweap bay. Basically across the bay from the marina tucked in the rocks.
